Susan Henggeler Memorial Scholarship transforms chemistry major’s academic future

Carl Agren, a chemistry major with a focus on biochemistry, has been a dedicated student employee at Boise State University’s Albertsons Library for over a year. Originally from Tucson, Arizona, Carl is passionate about his studies, particularly his favorite course, Physical Chemistry, which he views as a testament to his growth and resilience. At Boise State, Carl appreciates the hands-on approach of his professors who prioritize deep understanding over rote memorization. His education is helping prepare him for a future as an applied chemist, where he hopes to make a tangible impact in fields such as nuclear energy or environmental toxicology.

Outside of his academic life, Carl enjoys media and storytelling with friends, from crafting collaborative stories through role-playing games like Pathfinder to rewatching beloved animated series like Avatar: The Last Airbender. The Susan Henggeler Memorial Scholarship has had a profound impact on his academic journey, relieving financial pressure and enabling him to focus on his future. Grateful for the support, Carl looks forward to using his education to make a real-world difference.

“This scholarship was a massive, wonderful blessing,” says Agren.

“Now I actually have money to plan for my future and I have nothing but gratitude for the institution for helping me with this.”
