Summer Youth Sports Camp FAQ's

What does a typical day of the program look like?

Our program gives participants the opportunity to learn new sports and develop new skill sets. Participants will be with the same group during their time in the program and will rotate through the various sports and activities listed on the Sports and Activities page. All groups will meet in the grass area on the west side of the Bronco Gymnasium building. Activity options include half-day sessions (8:00am – 12:00pm or 12:30 – 4:30pm) and full-day sessions (8:00am – 4:30pm). There are drop-off times from 8:00am – 8:30am for the morning session and 12:30pm – 12:50pm for the afternoon session. Pick-up times for the morning session is from 12:10pm – 12:30pm and 4:30pm – 5:00pm for the afternoon session. For participants with us all day, there will be a one-hour lunch break in the middle of the day. Participants must bring a lunch with them every day.

Where do I drop-off/pick-up my child? What if I am late?

  • The front entrance of the Bronco Gymnasium building. This is the starting location for all classes each day. Staff will guide participants to their groups/instructors for daily attendance.
  • If you arrive late, you will need to escort your child to his or her class/group. We provide all authorized parents/guardians with our program master schedule so that you can easily find the location of your child’s/children’s group.
  • We prefer that you meet your child for pick-up at the conclusion of their session. All pick-ups will occur in front of the Bronco Gymnasium building during the specified times on the schedule. This is to ensure that your child is being supervised by our staff in a common meeting location and there is a large loading zone where pick-up can occur safely.

What should my child wear and pack every day?

  • All participants should wear clothing suitable for physical activity. Appropriate clothing includes shorts or gym pants, a T-shirt, and proper athletic footwear. Participants should not wear baggy or extremely tight clothing.
  • We strongly recommend that students bring their own water bottles to fill up from drinking fountains or the water jugs we provide.
  • Many activities occur outside. We strongly suggest your child bring appropriate protective sun wear such as sunscreen, a hat, and/or sunglasses.

Do participants have to bring any equipment to camp?

For most of our activities, equipment is provided! The only class/session that requires extra equipment is mountain biking (participants must bring their own bike, helmet, bike lock, and any other relevant gear).  

We ask that all participants wear clothing suitable for physical activity (shorts/gym pants, t-shirt, athletic footwear, etc.). We also recommend that participants bring a water bottle, sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses.   

Do I need to pack a lunch or can my child bring money to purchase lunch?

  • If your child is registered for a Full Day session, there will be a 40-minute supervised lunch period, from 12:10 – 12:50pm. Your child must bring his or her own non-perishable lunch each day. In order to maintain supervision of all students, we are unable to accommodate requests to allow participants to get a purchased lunch at the Student Union Building. Please discuss this with your child, we ask that you do not send money with them to purchase food from on-campus dining locations or vending machines.
  • If your child is registered for only a Half Day session, there will be no lunch break, but there will be a brief 15-20 minute snack break during the morning and afternoon sessions, so sending your child with their own snacks is encouraged.

Can my child bring money to purchase lunch or snacks at the Student Union Building?

  • No. In an effort to make sure all participants are being supervised and getting to their classes on time, participants must bring their own snacks and lunch from home. Please discuss this with your child, we ask that you do not send money with them to purchase food from the Student Union Building, other on-campus dining locations, or vending machines.

Can my child take their own break during lunch and not be registered as a Full Day participant?

  • No. Due to supervision policies here on campus we must make sure all participants are supervised at all times. We can not allow participants to sit and wait for their next session without supervision. Please make sure that you have your child enrolled in Full Day sessions if they will be on campus all day.

Where do I park?

We arrange daily drop-off/pickup parking adjacent to the Bronco Gymnasium Building, in the West Stadium lot and on Bronco Circle. If parking for longer than the time it takes to drop-off/pickup your child, please purchase a parking pass at the nearest parking kiosk to avoid being ticketed.

What qualifications do instructors have?

It is one of our goals to hire instructors with the necessary requisites skills and appropriate certifications. Our instructors often come from a variety of backgrounds (students from the Department of Kinesiology, Campus Recreation, student-athletes, current and retired teachers from the area). Many of our instructors are student interns from the Department of Kinesiology that bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to our program.

What is your staff to participant ratio?

The student-to-instructor ratio will vary based upon the participants’ group size. For the most part we aim for a 6:1 to 8:1 participants-to-instructor ratio.

If the participant cannot attend all days of the program, do you prorate?

Every attempt is made to find a balance between offering a quality program at a reasonable cost to families who participate in our program. While keeping in mind our own costs (e.g., staffing, equipment, & facility rentals), we are unable to offer any prorated fees for missed days.
