
Overview
The K-12 Physical Education & Health program is designed to guide students in developing the knowledge, skills and dispositions essential for success in teaching Physical Education and Health in elementary and secondary schools. The program admits up to 20 students per year as part of an application process during the first semester of the junior year. Students must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA, 3.0 GPA in Education courses, and 3.0 GPA in all KINES and Health Endorsement courses. Students must provide a current CPR and first aid certification. Students must pass Praxis content knowledge exams in both Physical Education and Health Education prior to student teaching. Transfer coursework will not be used to fulfill the following courses: KINES 251, 351, and 451. Students who complete this program will meet the Idaho Beginning Teacher Standards and be recommended for state certification.

Program Learning Outcomes
As a result of completing the K-12 Physical Education & Health program, students should be able to:
- Apply discipline-specific scientific and philosophical concepts and principles to the development of physically literate and health literate individuals. (IDE Standards #4, #5)
- Execute skillful performance of various physical activities and health enhancing practices. (IDE Standards #4, #5)
- Construct curricular and instructional plans to meet the diverse developmental needs of all students. (IDE Standards #1, #2, #3, #6, #7, #8, #13)
- Implement teaching practices that promote student achievement of state and/or national K-12 Physical Education and Health Education standards (IDE Standards #1, #2, #3, #7, #13)
- Engage in responsible and ethical professional behaviors and practices. (IDE Standards #9, #10, #11, #12)
Post-Graduation Careers
In addition to earning your bachelor’s degree, you will earn two K-12 teaching endorsements in physical education and health education. Students who complete this program will meet the Idaho Beginning Teacher Standards and be recommended for state certification. This teaching certification is accepted in all 50 states and most countries around the world also accept the certificate as valid.
Most students acquire their first teaching job immediately after graduation. There has been a 90-100% employment rate after graduation. If students want to leave the Boise area or venture beyond Idaho, there are many teaching job opportunities. Our program has had many students teaching in a number of states as well as internationally.
