Associate Professor
Dr. Shuqi Zhang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Kinesiology at Boise State University, where she has been a faculty member since 2019. She earned her Ph.D. in Kinesiology, specializing in Biomechanics, from Louisiana State University in 2014. Her dissertation, “The Effect of Sensory Nerve Impairments on Postural Control during Standing and Walking in Healthy Individuals and People with Peripheral Neuropathy,” highlights her focus on the impact of neurological impairments on movement, particularly in postural control and gait biomechanics.
Zhang’s research centers on understanding the biomechanics of movement, with a particular emphasis on individuals with conditions like peripheral neuropathy and Parkinson’s disease. She investigates how sensory nerve impairments affect balance and gait, as well as the recovery processes following sports-related concussions, particularly in children and adolescents. Her work also explores the benefits of interventions like Tai Chi, walking on improving postural stability and uses advanced techniques, such as machine learning, to analyze movement patterns and develop innovative therapeutic strategies for enhancing motor function in people with neurological conditions.
Zhang has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, contributed to academic books, and presented at international conferences. She serves on the editorial board of Sports Biomechanics and is the reviewer for journals such as Gait & Posture, Journal of Biomechanics, and PLOS One. Her professional memberships include the American College of Sports Medicine and the International Society of Biomechanics.
