Kinesiology in the community

Dr. Kim Tucker, Ed.D. and Dr. Jennifer T. Shalz, MD DipABIM, DipABLM, the Medical Director of Cardiovascular Rehabilitation at St. Luke coordinated an opportunity for the students in KINES 430, Physical Activity for Special Population, to do a site visit at the Rehabilitation Center. Dr. Shalz and Dr. Trucker collaborated for months about the course’s learning outcome and the vision and mission of the rehab center. They collaborated to provide supporting materials and research articles for the students to read prior to visiting the rehab center.

During this site visit, there were panelists who were  RT, RN, OT, and EP who presented on their chosen profession, their pathway, and why they like their current work utilizing exercise as medicine. Additionally, during the site visit Dr. Tucker’s students toured the facility and were shown how medical equipment was used in the rehabilitation setting.
