The deadline for the Communicating Across Difference (CAD) Study Programs has been extended!
Are you an undergraduate researcher working with a near-peer (grad or postdoc) mentor? If so, we invite you to apply to participate in the Communicating Across Difference research study. This study is investigating what factors may influence the development of researchers communication skills, including the roles of mentors facilitating this process.
“Why should I join?” Well here are the reasons:
- Boost your communication skills
- Address RCR criterion of mentor-mentee communication
- Improve your science communication with the informal short video
- Document communication training on your CV
When you register, you will nominate your mentor or mentee to participate with you as your research study partner. Your participation in the study will include attendance at 1 1.5-hour workshop with your study partner, as well as completion of 3 online surveys on your own (the first before the workshop, the second 2 weeks after the workshop, and the third 6 months later). You and your study partner will each be offered compensation for completion of each survey (a total of $60 per participant, or $20 per survey per participant). Lastly, you will receive an annual long-term tracking questionnaire for up to three years.
Your study partner will attend the same workshops as you (if possible) and take similar online surveys at all three timepoints. While you are encouraged to attend the workshop together, we will not share your survey responses with your study partner and vice versa.

Applications for training programs are OPEN and will remain open until March 1st, 2024 at 11:59pm CST.
Please note that all information you provide will be kept confidential. You and your research study partner participate in parallel. Paired near-peer mentors and students will not see each other’s survey responses.
