Scholarship

Michele has several current projects that are focused on improving mathematics education for K-12 students and educators across the state of Idaho. She directs the Boise State Regional Math Center (RMC) which is funded by the Idaho State Department of Education. The mission of the RMC is to improve student achievement in mathematics through local school district partnerships and high quality professional development. She is the principal investigator on the recently funded Accelerate Math Learning Collaborative (AMLC) project funded by the Idaho State Board of Education. The goals of the AMLC are to accelerate students’ math learning beyond ‘typical’ growth rates, identify evidence-based practices to support acceleration of math learning, and share effective practices broadly among Idaho educators. Another recent project on which Michele serves as a Co-PI is the Researching the Order of Teaching (ROOT) project funded by the National Science Foundation. ROOT brought together 100 Idaho teachers to improve Grades 6-8 students’ math achievement in modeling and problem solving by studying effective sequencing of instructional strategies.
