Department of Theatre, Film, and Creative Writing PLOs

Theatre Arts BA

  1. To demonstrate a working knowledge of the complex and collaborative theoretical and practical aspects of theatre production.
  2. To demonstrate the qualities of individual responsibility and leadership within the production process.
  3. To demonstrate the ability to apply proper techniques in dance performance and choreography.
  4. To demonstrate knowledge of historical and contemporary perspectives about theatre and allied arts and apply those perspectives either to an advanced research project or to theatrical production.
  5. To demonstrate critical and analytical thinking skills and the refinement of written and oral communication.
  6. To demonstrate the ability to participate in the creative production process as a designer.

Theatre Arts, Secondary Education BA

Film and Television Arts BA, BFA

  1. Analyze the elements of narrative and assess the quality of personal works through the various lenses of Film Theory.
  2. Design a film through the stages of pre-production: script development, team creation, and resources assessment.
  3. Develop a film through the stages of production: lighting, cinematography, and sound.
  4. Complete a film through the stages of post-production: editing, color correction, and final export.
  5. Communicate a personal film vision to members of a filmmaking team.
  6.  Recognize the ethical responsibilities of artists to accurately represent members of diverse communities.

Creative Writing BA, BFA

  1. Write effectively in multiple genres (poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction)
  2. Communicate effectively in speech, both as a speaker and a listener, in a live workshop setting
  3. Engage in effective critical evaluation of creative writing, both professional and student work
  4. Analyze ethical issues and competing value systems in examples of creative writing, both professional and student
  5. Apply knowledge of diversity to examples of creative writing, both professional and student

Narrative Arts BFA

  1. Write effectively in multiple genres (fiction, creative nonfiction, stage, film)
  2. Communicate effectively in speech, both as a speaker and a listener, performer and audience member
  3. Engage in effective critical evaluation of the genres of TFCW, both professional and student work
  4. Analyze ethical issues and competing value systems in the genres of TFCW, both professional and student
  5. Apply knowledge of diversity to examples of TFCW writing, both professional and student

Creative Writing MFA

  1. Produce a creative thesis in their major genre that the committee determines to be of publishable quality.
  2. Be capable of placing their own creative work and the work of others within an historical context, showing suitable knowledge of literary conventions and the ability to reference other significant works in the field.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of the literary traditions, critical theories, and artistic forms of their genre.
  4. Critique peer work, using appropriate vocabulary as well as workshop etiquette.
  5. Submit and publish student work in appropriate venues.
  6. Gain skills in editing and publishing and promoting literary publications.
  7. Demonstrate the ability to teach entry-level and, in some cases, upper division creative writing to undergraduates.
  8. Become instilled with the skills and habits to continue writing and submitting work for publication after graduation.
