Celebrating 30 Years of IBO

Celebrating 30 Years of IBO

The year 2024 marks a significant milestone for the Intermountain Bird Observatory (IBO) as we celebrate 30 years of dedicated bird research, outreach, conservation and education. Since our first full season as a hawk watch station in 1994, we have sought to understand and protect avian species across the Intermountain West and beyond.

This essential work over the decades would not have been possible without the support of friends like you who share a love of birds, wildlife and the outdoors. We are so appreciative of how you have chosen to support the IBO with your time, talent and treasure. As we look toward the future of the IBO’s critical mission, we want you to be aware of an important way you can provide for the IBO in a lasting way: through charitable gift planning.

When you include the IBO in your will or living trust, or as a beneficiary designation on your retirement account or life insurance policy, you can create a deferred gift larger than what you may have thought possible. We call these “legacy gifts” because you are making part of your life’s legacy the assurance that the IBO will continue its work long into the future to protect birds and their habitats.

Denise Hughes committed a gift to IBO education through her estate planning. Denise has always loved the kinds of experiences that IBO gives to children. She feels strongly that IBO is on the right track and agrees with our mission of providing children with “Discovery of Nature” experiences.

“Kids aren’t exposed to anything like that anymore,” Denise said, “and IBO gives kids something to light that spark for nature and the outdoors!” – Denise Hughes

Barb Forderhase, volunteer and supporter of the IBO, has also given to IBO education through her will. She wanted to make an impactful gift that will ensure IBO’s outreach and education programs will continue educating about conservation for years to come.

“I think it is our responsibility as adults to expose children to knowledge and to experiences that they might not get through their parents or extended family,” Barb Foderhase

Would you consider a legacy gift to further the work of the IBO? If you have already included the IBO in your estate plans, please let us know by completing and returning the enclosed notification form. We want to thank you for your intentions, and your active communication helps us plan well for the future. If you are in the midst of estate planning, please give your professional advisors the sample language below so you can be assured that your future contributions are used the way you intended.

“I hereby give, devise and bequeath $_________ and No/100 dollars ($DOLLARS) to Boise State University Foundation, Inc., an Idaho corporation, operated exclusively for the benefit of Boise State University, to be directed to the Intermountain Bird Observatory [or specific IBO fund].”

Notification of Planned Gift for IBO

I support the vision of the Intermountain Bird Observatory. As evidence of my desire to provide a legacy of support, I hereby inform the Boise State University Foundation that I have made a provision in my estate plan for the Intermountain Bird Observatory. Documenting this legacy gift will be part of UNBRIDLED: The Campaign for Boise State University, and as such will serve as an inspiration to others!
