Purpose
The purpose of the Salesforce Project Manager role is to facilitate, manage and successfully implement enterprise projects in relation to the implementation of Salesforce at Boise State University. The Salesforce Project Manager is the person with overall responsibility for the successful initiation, planning, design, execution, monitoring, controlling and closure of a Salesforce project. They ensure that Salesforce projects follow the OIT project process and project management framework.
The Salesforce Project Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day project management activities for a program of Salesforce specific projects. The Salesforce Project Manager will work closely with functional leaders, organizational units, and subject matter experts to implement new processes that use Salesforce Service Cloud, Marketing Cloud, Education Data Architecture, Advisor Link, and Admissions Connect.
Level Scope
Recognized master in professional discipline with significant impact and influence on campus policy and program development. Establishes critical strategic and operational goals; develops and implements new products, processes, standards or operational plans to achieve strategies. Regularly leads projects of critical importance to the campus; these projects carry substantial consequences of success or failure. Requires significant influence and communication with executive leadership. Problems faced are frequently complex and multidimensional, requiring broad based consideration of variables that impact multiple areas of the organization. Typically hold an Advanced Degree and 8 years of professional experience or equivalent relevant experience, including mastery level knowledge of level area, typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent plus 7 years relevant experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of CRM concepts and functions
- Experience managing projects that adopt and adhere to Salesforce best practices and functionality
- Ability to successfully implement large and complex Salesforce projects
- Ability to promote Salesforce as an ambassador to other departments and potential adopts
- Experience leading enterprise-level programs with multi-functional teams
- Excellent communications (oral and written), interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills
- Ability to present and explain complex technical topics, problems, alternative solutions to others
- Experience with business process design and reengineering
- Experience with evaluating software to meet business needs
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment that includes Business Analysts, Salesforce Administrators, Architects, and stakeholders
- Ability to meet deadlines, handle and prioritize simultaneous requests, and manage laterally and upwards
- Experience using Google Workspace (Google Apps) suite of productivity applications (preferred)
- Experience with higher education processes (preferred)
- Experience working in a SCRUM or agile environment (preferred)
- Experience working with implementation partners
- Completion of Salesforce Trailhead courses, preferably Education Cloud modules and/or certified Salesforce Administrator

Initiating Projects
- Utilizes established project standards, procedures
- Contributes to the development of new quality metrics
Requirements Management
- Works with business analysts and/or project stakeholders to define/refine requirements
- Works with single or groups of stakeholders to understand current process and gather new requirements using a variety of techniques
- Identifies and clarifies requirements using basic conceptual and logical process/data modeling techniques
- Understands the distinction between functional, non-functional, and business requirements, and can effectively document them for technical teams
- Can create a use case with simple actors and can identify the actions and steps within a process
Project Planning
- Develops the critical path schedule which shows the sequence of events compatible with work breakdown structure
- Creates and maintains the project plan ensuring selected methodology is adhered to
- Develops and continually updates project plans and schedules
- Develops work breakdown structures based on the project objectives and scope
- Identifies any potential project predecessors
- Ensures that the project/program outcome reflects the goals of the client
- Works with the Business Analysts and the project stakeholders in order to define/refine the project scope
- Facilitates the gathering of information required for the level of effort analysis to estimate project cost, resources, time and deliverables
- Negotiates conflicts and resolves issues that arise during this process
- Develops/updates charter to be submitted for approval
- Determines staffing requirements and forms project teams
- Develops budget requests for resources
- Works with resource managers in order to effectively align resources across projects
- Provides work direction and leadership to assigned projects, including scheduling, assignment of work and review of project efforts
- Assists with identifying which resources need to be procured outside the organization
- Describes technical or other issues that need to be considered and assist in the development of SOWs
- Updates the project plan with work assignments
- Conducts project kickoff meetings, communicating individual roles and project expectations
- Ensures that all project team members have the tools and training required to perform effectively
