Purpose

This position provides design, development, revision, research, and support of online courses and programs supported by the eCampus Center across the curriculum of Boise State University working directly with faculty to provide pedagogical and instructional design consultation to support effective and innovative delivery of academic credit courses to online students.

Level Scope

Recognized subject matter expert who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field with limited oversight from managers. Independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; requires deep job knowledge of area typically obtained through higher education combined with experience.  Manages large projects or processes and problems faced are difficult and often complex; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions.  May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy.  Influences others regarding policies, practices and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Advanced Degree and 5 years of professional experience or equivalent relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience working with relational databases and collecting, managing, and analyzing data for research purposes.
  • Familiar with principles and techniques used in academic research and systems analyses.
  • Five (5) years of demonstrated experience in instructional design or related field
  • Ability to design and implement programs to ensure institutional compliance with federal, state, and university policies and best practices
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with academic and other administrators, faculty and staff and to explain technical concepts in non-technical terms to faculty and other stakeholders

Essential Functions

Key Responsibilities

60% of Time the Instructional Design Analyst must:

  • Designing and redesigning courses for online delivery modes that include the incorporation of learning management system tools for instruction and communication.
  • Designing, creating and deploying multimedia and interactive learning objects such as screencasts, vodcasts, podcasts, web resources and third-party instructional materials.
  • Manage the design and development of online courses consistent with established departmental processes and procedures and using effective time/task management strategies to complete projects.
  • Assists with ensuring online courses are compliant with university/federal policies related to copyright, accessibility, clock hours, regular and substantive interaction, and academic integrity.
  • Conducts research and evaluation on topics and practices of importance to the eCampus Center related to improving student success and retention in online courses and programs
  • Provides consultations on research design and data collection methods appropriate for online learning environments
  • Identify emerging trends that add value to the work of the eCampus Center, incorporate them or recommend improvements, and strive to ensure that Boise State’s practices are current.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Some positions may involve frequent bending, moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 50 pounds; some positions may involve moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 70 pounds; standing up to eight hours each day; working in all weather conditions; exposure to high noise levels and require wearing hearing protection.
