Purpose
To perform routine environmental studies, monitoring, sampling and assessments. To support campus sustainability initiatives.
Level Scope
Fully competent and productive professional contributor who applies acquired job skills, policies, and procedures to complete substantive assignments/projects/tasks of moderate scope and complexity. Works independently with general supervision; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action. May provide guidance and assistance to entry level professionals and/or support employees.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years experience or equivalent
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong critical thinking skills; using scientific rules and methods to solve problems
- Ability to communicate scientific or technical information through oral briefings, and written documents
- Knowledge of applicable state laws, regulations, codes and guidelines as related to the program area.
Essential Functions
Key Responsibilities
60% of Time the Environmental Compliance & Sustainability Mgr must:
- Performs routine air quality, water quality, and/or hazardous waste or related studies, inspections, and assessments; gathers, analyzes data and prepares reports; participates in the identification of sources of pollution and development of corrective or preventive action plans; investigates complaints and prepares documentation of violations and recommends procedures; responds to environmental emergencies; conducts routine sampling, monitoring and surveillance activities; may calibrate and maintain field monitoring instruments.
- Provides information and explanation of requirements, regulations and policies; interprets and applies laws, regulations, policies, and standards; participates in the evaluation and recommendation of technical solutions to environmental problems;
- Lead sustainability initiatives identified by the Sustainability Governance Council and mentor student sustainability champions.
- Collaborates with various campus departments and the community to grow sustainable options, pursue fundraising opportunities, and pool resources to achieve goals.
- Manages and develops opportunities for student internships and volunteer positions to connect students with applicable skills in sustainability on and off campus

Work Environment and Physical Demands
Some positions may involve frequent bending, moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 50 pounds; some positions may involve moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 70 pounds; standing up to eight hours each day; working in all weather conditions; exposure to high noise levels and requiring wearing hearing protection.
