Purpose
To perform technical master journey level installation, diagnostic troubleshooting and repairs on commercial industrial-grade food service appliances, equipment, and systems; manage maintenance schedule, order and maintain inventory and stock; perform related work.
Level Scope
Applies skills and job knowledge in area of specialization; may adapt procedures, operations, techniques, tools, materials, and/or equipment to meet needs of area of specialization; may work on non-routine tasks; resolves issues/makes working decisions within area of specialization or responsibility with minimal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications
Licensure: EPA Refrigerant Certification; valid standard driver’s license/ Successful completion of an accredited refrigeration technician program.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience performing installation and repair of a variety of commercial and industrial-grade food-service appliances and equipment
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
- Quality Control Analysis
- Knowledge of inventory and records management
Essential Functions
Key Responsibilities
60% of Time the Commercial Appliance Repair Technician must:
- Installs, conducts technical diagnostics and performs specialized repairs on a wide variety of commercial/industrial grade refrigeration and freezer units and compressors, dish machines, disposals, specialized gas ovens, grills and other electrical equipment
- Diagnostic testing of coils, valves and connections for leaks, pressure and performance
- Flushes refrigerant and recharges refrigeration units, maintains electrical and pneumatic controls, thermostats, heating elements, and plumbing systems
- Replaces electronic components such as circuit boards, igniters, digital controls , alarms, commercial grade electrical motors and fixtures
- Installs and connects piping for gas appliances and oversees and approves contractor work.
- Ensures compliance with applicable laws regarding refrigerant recycling and disposal and maintains required Environmental Protection Agency documentation
- Purchases and procures parts, tools and supplies.
- Manages and maintains inventory and determines stock levels.
- Estimates repair costs and recommends replacement of damaged appliances and equipment; coordinates with equipment manufacturers and vendors on equipment warranties.

Work Environment and Physical Demands
Some positions may involve frequent bending, moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 50 pounds; some positions may involve moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 70 pounds; standing up to eight hours each day; working in all weather conditions; exposure to high noise levels and requiring wearing hearing protection.
