Purpose

This position provides leadership among the staff for the development, recommendation, and implementation of strategies and policies for academic planning, program assessment, public relations, and alumni relations as well as supporting the Dean of the Honors College.

Level Scope

Spends the majority of time (50% or more) achieving organizational objectives through the coordinated achievements of subordinate staff. Manages experienced professionals who exercise latitude and independence in assignments. Establishes departmental goals and objectives, functions with autonomy. Manages the accountability and stewardship of human, financial, and often physical resources in compliance with departmental and campus wide goals and objectives. Ensures subordinate supervisors and professionals adhere to defined internal controls with a focus on policy and strategy implementation. Manages systems and procedures to protect departmental assets and requires practical knowledge in leading and managing the execution of processes, projects and tactics within one area.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years professional relevant experience including 1 year managerial experience

  • Ability to lead and coach staff

Essential Functions

Key Responsibilities

60% of Time the Honors Program, Associate Director must:

  • Manage and implement policies for the undergraduate Interdisciplinary Studies Program
  • Manage and oversee the process of awarding and distributing scholarships and serve on university scholarship committees for distribution of university-wide awards
  • Direct institutional research for the Honors College with the aim to better administer and improve Honors College recruitment, services, and programs
  • Supervise, train, and manage Honors support staff related to advising
  • Manage the admission process for incoming Honors students
  • Contact departments and faculty, allocating budget disbursement and scheduling courses
  • Design curriculum and serve as an instructor for a minimum of one upper-division Honors course
  • Collaborate with the Dean in the design of an interdisciplinary, enriched curriculum for the College that facilitates progressive intellectual development of Honors students

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Some positions may involve frequent bending, moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 50 pounds; some positions may involve moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 70 pounds; standing up to eight hours each day; working in all weather conditions; exposure to high noise levels and require wearing hearing protection.
