Purpose

To recruit new students to Boise State in support of the enrollment goals of the University.

Level Scope

Entry-level professional with limited or no prior experience to contribute on a project or work team. Incumbent learns to use professional concepts to resolve problems of limited scope and complexity under close supervision while achieving day-to-day objectives. Works on developmental assignments that are initially routine in nature, requiring limited judgment and decision making. This level is typically focused on self-development. Requires theoretical knowledge through specific education and training.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Boise State admission policies and procedures and maintain an up-to-date understanding of any changes or updates
  • Understanding of programs, events, academic departments and student services on campus
  • Ability to clearly and specifically communicate the intricacies of the process to prospective students
  • Ability to speak publicly and make presentations
  • Ability to provide positive and efficient customer service
  • Skilled in using a variety of methodologies to recruit students
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of independent judgment when working with various constituencies to analyze and evaluate the needs of the “customer”
  • Skilled time manager and ability to manage various important tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive internal and external organizational relationships
  • Knowledge of Family Educational Rights and Privacy (FERPA) guidelines, the “Statement of Principles of Good Practice” from the National Association of College Admission Counselors (NACAC), and “Professional Practices and Ethical Standards” set forth by the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO)

Essential Functions

Key Responsibilities

60 % of Time Enrollment Counselor Associate will:

  • To represent Boise State through email, web presence, and make presentations to students contemplating their college options and decision.
  • To produce high-quality recruitment messaging to target audiences.
  • To be the front-line service provider with the public and prospective students, which requires extensive knowledge of university people, programs and policies, as well as a positive attitude and commitment to higher education.
  • To serve students by responding to requests for information, providing individual admissions advising and processing, and explaining policies.
  • Conduct presentations about Boise State for groups of students, high school counselors and community partners.
  • Work with the recruitment team to provide high-quality student service with student support during peak times.
  • Conduct admissions counseling and maintain positive contact with prospective students.
  • Counsel and advise prospective students and their parents, individually and in groups, regarding admission, programs and degrees, careers, special services, financial aid, housing and other opportunities at Boise State.
  • Maintain positive contact with prospective students from the point of inquiry through new student orientation.
  • Accurately assess admissions criteria and determine appropriate information and referral, exercise discretion to resolve issues, work with departments to coordinate admissions information, then to tailor the message to fit each unique situation.

35% of Time Enrollment Counselor Associate:

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Some positions may involve frequent bending, moving, lifting and carrying material weighing up to 50 pounds; some positions may involve moving, lifting and carrying material weighing up to 70 pounds; standing up to eight hours each day; working in all weather conditions; exposure to high noise levels and require wearing hearing protection
