Purpose

The Audiovisual Production Services Manager provides daily management of audiovisual services, equipment, and personnel in all campus event facilities .The position is the lead authority on audiovisual specifications for these facilities and collaborates with the Office of Information Technology to research and adopt shared standards in system design.

Level Scope

Provides direct supervision typically to professionals or skilled technical employees at the entry or intermediate level. Functions as advisor to unit and administration and sets goals and objectives for team members for achievement of operational results. Analyzes and resolves problems through drawing from prior experiences. Interprets policies (e.g., fiscal management, HR, contracts and grants, resource management in defined areas) and demonstrates solid subject matter knowledge. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action. Supervises staff to assure accountability and stewardship of campus resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental goals and objectives.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent plus 2 years experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of electrical safety and risk mitigation practices.
  • Knowledge of AV equipment inventory management, budgeting, purchasing, tracking, installation, and repair.
  • Ability to lead planning and production of audiovisual services in a commercial or higher education meeting, conference, or event venue.
  • Knowledge of supervisory practices
  • Technical skills: can independently operate and instruct others to operate portable and installed AV equipment (sound, lighting, projection, theatrical rigging) for events.
  • Interest, experience, and/or ability to promote cultural competency and/or diversity
  • Ability to make independent decisions in the best interest of the department
  • Ability to recruit, hire, train, mentor and evaluate student and staff
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Experience managing a budget
  • Excellent communication skills to work as a high level customer service representative

Essential Functions

Key Responsibilities

60% of Time the Audiovisual Production Services, Manager must:

  • Provides day to day direct supervision to student and production staff
  • Leads areas in forecasting staffing needs and production details for key events.
  • Readily and proficiently performs all duties when necessary, including for some evening, weekend and VIP events.
  • System support, maintenance, and design.
  • Prepares and maintains standard operating procedures for service area
  • Serves as campus expert on sound and lighting systems used in the event area

35% of Time the Audiovisual Production Services, Manager

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally (Occasionally: activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) and/or up to 30 pounds amount of force frequently (Frequently: activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. General office work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.

 

The employee in this position must be able to work extended hours, including nights and weekends.

Travel Requirement

May be required to travel with overnight stays for meetings and/or training.
