Purpose

To direct daily activities of campus traffic and parking operations; supervise staff; perform related work.

Level Scope

Provides immediate supervision to a unit or group of operational or technical employees. A portion of time may be spent performing individual tasks related to the unit; however, supervisory activities must constitute a primary part of the job. Supervises unit operations to ensure compliance with departmental or campus policies, procedures, and defined internal controls. Ensures accountability and stewardship of campus resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental standards and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience: supervising staff; applying parking management concepts to include traffic pattern survey and parking layout, traffic and parking hazards, and safety standards; preparing written reports and correspondence.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate information and ideas effectively
  • Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective operations for security of people and property
  • Ability to use relevant information and individual judgement to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards

Essential Functions

Key Responsibilities

60% of Time the Parking/Traffic Supervisor must:

  • Resolves complaints regarding violations of traffic and parking regulations from students, staff, and the general public; directs vehicle impoundments to ensure that proper legal steps are followed for vehicle custody; collects or supervises collection of parking or event monies; surveys parking lots for over- or under-utilization and hazards; assists customers; coordinates maintenance and repair of equipment; prepares documents and correspondence; maintains inventory of equipment and supplies; may assess vehicle or property damage and record findings for insurance reports; may issue citations; may assist with parking office duties; may coordinate event parking; may reconcile monies for each lot and prepare reports.
  • Hires, trains, schedules, assigns work, disciplines, and evaluates staff; directs monitoring of campus traffic and parking regulations; reviews parking documents and advise personnel of policy and procedural changes; conducts staff meetings; coordinates changes in parking and traffic regulations and requirements with other departments on campus.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

These positions may require overtime and split-shift work. These positions involve lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds; visually observing activities in assigned area; working outdoors in all weather conditions; standing and walking up to seven hours per day; communicating using two way radios. These positions are subject to traffic hazards.
