Purpose

Web Analyst is responsible for development of a web analytics program and comprehensive SEO strategy at Boise State University for the purpose of delivering sophisticated, insightful and actionable data from Boise State’s online channels. This position will act as an expert in web analytics and SEO and will function as a web and customer advocate who will provide value in the ability to gather and interpret data and to deliver recommendations to the campus community.

Level Scope

Fully competent and productive professional contributor who applies acquired job skills, policies, and procedures to complete substantive assignments/projects/tasks of moderate scope and complexity.  Works independently with general supervision; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action.  May provide guidance and assistance to entry level professionals and/or support employees. Typically hold a Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years of professional experience or equivalent relevant experience.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent plus 5 years of relevant professional experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Web Analyst will possess the following work attributes: highly analytical, detail oriented, problem solver, multi-tasker and self-starter with ability to work in a deadline driven environment.
  • Significant knowledge of web analytics and SEO strategies, including Google Analytics.
  •  Ability to consolidate large amounts of data into digestible and presentable highlights for a broad spectrum of users from within the  University community and for outside vendors.
  • Ability to review, improve and implement SEO strategies across University online channels on an on-going basis through analysis and consultation within the University community and with outside vendors.

Essential Functions

Key Responsibilities

60% of Time the Web Analyst must:

  • Program Development – Advocate for, implement, monitor, evaluate, manage and continuously improve web analytics and SEO programs on a University-wide basis across all technology platforms. Serve as consultant for SEO strategies throughout the University community. Advocate for optimal search experience from the perspective of a broad spectrum of online users, including current and prospective students, faculty, staff, donors and outside community. Identify and coordinate with third-party vendors as needed. Monitor industry trends for latest developments in web analytics and SEO platforms and techniques. Develop short-term and long-term plans for future program enhancements.
  • Reporting and Analysis – Provide analytics tools and templates to standardize digital analytics strategy, implementation and evaluation in processes across the University. Create holistic dashboards by retrieving data from different sources for presentations to stakeholders and leadership across the University.

    Solve complex challenges by mining data, profiling, segmenting, capturing key metrics, creating reports, and performing strategic analysis. Develop and lead SEO initiatives, including competitive analysis, researching and analyzing keyword data, identifying long-tail keywords and providing page performance insights to inform content strategy. Manage delivery of regular performance reports, identifying areas of opportunity and successful tactics.

    Develop testing strategies including A/B and multivariate testing to increase conversion rates against key objectives across web properties.
  • Training and Support – Create and maintain University-specific process and best practice user documentation for web analytics and SEO at the University. Develop curriculum and implement web analytics and SEO training programs for University web administrators and content creators. Facilitate web analytics and SEO professional development opportunities for faculty and staff at the University.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Some positions may involve frequent bending, moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 50 pounds; some positions may involve moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 70 pounds; standing up to eight hours each day; working in all weather conditions; exposure to high noise levels and require wearing hearing protection.

Travel Requirement

May be required to travel with overnight stays.
