Rave Guardian app for Android and iPhone

This free, optional personal safety app that transforms your smartphone into a personal, mobile emergency blue light phone. This app allows touch-of-a-button panic calls both to 911 as well as to the Boise State Campus Safety and Security. More information about Rave Guardian is here.

Emergency blue light phones

There are over 70 emergency blue light phones on campus, located in the parking garages, along the major walkways of campus, and in various residence halls. You can directly contact 911 and the Campus Safety and Security communications center at no charge using these.

BroncoAlert Updates

BroncoAlert is a phone and text-based system allowing the university to proactively notify students, faculty and staff when an emergency is taking place on or near campus. To receive BroncoAlert updates, opt-in here.

Emergencies

If you witness an emergency situation, contact either Campus Security or Boise Police immediately.

In situations requiring broad notification of residents, staff members will go door to door, place messages on your Bronco Card, or post general area announcements on bulletin boards or doors. In all cases, it is critical that you follow the instructions given. You’re also highly encouraged to opt-in to BroncoAlert, the university’s electronic notification system for timely notices of emergency information.

Fire Log

Housing and Residence Life maintains a fire log that tracks any incident of fire/flame in a residential facility. Complete information about fire alarm activation and other fire safety related information is available from the Housing and Residence Life office located in Chaffee Hall.

Fire Safety Systems

All facilities are protected by complete fire suppression systems, fire detection, and alarm systems including:

  • manual pull stations
  • heat and smoke detectors in all common areas and storage spaces
  • local-sounding smoke detectors in all sleeping rooms
  • audible evacuation alarms

All residence hall fire alarm systems are monitored at Boise State Department of Public Safety, providing immediate notification and fast response. Fire extinguishers are in all residence hall kitchenettes, and in the kitchen areas of all apartments.

Barnes Towers has two-hour fire walls and one-hour fire doors. The fire alarm system has smoke and heat detectors, manual pull stations, and audible and visible alarm notification devices. Stairwells are protected with fire doors.

Chaffee Hall is of concrete masonry construction. “D” wing is equipped with sprinklers and “D” wing resident rooms have smoke control doors. The fire alarm system has smoke and heat detectors, manual pull stations, and audible and visible alarm notification devices. Stairwells are protected with fire doors.

Clearwater, Payette and Selway Suites are 100% sprinkler-equipped. The fire alarm system has smoke detectors, heat detectors, manual pull stations, and audible and visible alarm notification devices. Each apartment has standalone smoke detectors. Stairwells are protected with fire doors.

Driscoll Hall is 100% sprinkler-equipped with two-hour fire walls and smoke control doors between the suites. The fire alarm system has smoke and heat detectors, manual pull stations, and audible and visible alarm notification devices. Stairwells are protected with fire doors.

Keiser Hall is 100% sprinkler-equipped with two-hour fire walls and fire dampers in the HVAC system. Stairwells are protected with one-hour fire doors. The fire alarm system has smoke and heat detectors, manual pull stations, and audible and visible alarm notification devices. Stairwells are protected with fire doors.

Lincoln Townhomes (Aspen, Cedar, Hawthorne, Juniper, Spruce, and Tamarack) are 100% sprinkler-equipped and each apartment has smoke detectors connected to the fire alarm system. There are also audible and visible warning devices in the stairwells.

Morrison Hall is 100% sprinkler-equipped with two-hour firewalls and smoke control doors between the suites. The fire alarm system has smoke and heat detectors, manual pull stations, and audible and visible alarm notification devices. Stairwells are protected with fire doors.

Taylor Hall is 100% sprinkler-equipped with two-hour fire walls and fire dampers in the HVAC system. Stairwells are protected with one-hour fire doors. The fire alarm system has smoke and heat detectors, manual pull stations, and audible and visible alarm notification devices. Stairwells are protected with fire doors.

Outdoor BBQs

Most facilities are equipped with outdoor barbecues. Use is on a first-come-first-served basis, with priority given to residents of that area. Reservations can be made through the resident director. Only charcoal briquettes and Duraflame logs can be used; no liquid lighter fluids of any sort may be used. Following use, the barbecue must be cleaned appropriately.
