2025 – 2026 Academic Year

The Sophomore and Above Housing application opens the week of February 17. Students will have until Friday, Feb. 21, at 11:59 p.m. (MST) to apply for participation in the room selection process. Students can apply by logging into their Housing Portal.

The First-Year Housing application will open on Tuesday, Mar. 18. Students will have until Thursday, May 1, at 11:59 p.m. (MDT) to apply for guaranteed housing with Boise State. Students can apply by going to their Housing Portal.

First-year students and Transfers must complete the intent to enroll in order to receive an assignment on-campus.

Fall 2025 Housing Application Opening dates

• First-Year Students: the housing application opens on Tuesday, Mar. 18, 2025.
• Sophomore and Above Students: the housing application opens the week of February 17, 2025.

* Students must be admitted to Boise State in order to access the Housing Application. 

Summer 2025

The Summer Housing application opening date is Monday, Mar. 3, 2025.

Spring 2026

The Spring Housing 2026 Application will open in October 2026 for First-year and Sophomore and Above students. Housing for the Spring is assigned on a First Come, First Served basis.

• First-year students must complete the intent to enroll in order to access the application.

* Students must be admitted to Boise State in order to access the Housing Application. 

First-Year Application Process

The application for First Year Housing will open Tuesday, Mar. 18, 2025, for the Fall 2025 – Spring 2026 academic year. Students must complete their application by Thursday, May 1, 2025, to be guaranteed housing with Boise State.

Once the application is live and you start applying, you’ll be asked to complete the following:

• Electronically sign the academic year license agreement.
• List your top 5 community preferences.
• Pay a $75 nonrefundable application fee*.
• Complete the Living Learning Community questions (if you listed an LLC in your community requests).
• Contact the Educational Access Center if you need accommodations – Priority Approval Deadline is May 1.
• Register for renters insurance through GradGuard, a Boise State University partner if you don’t already have renters insurance.
• Complete a Roommate Profile. Share about your interests, preferences, and lifestyle to set the stage for a supportive and respectful living environment
• Check your Boise State email frequently for important updates.

*Your application is not complete until you’ve paid the application fee. If you are under 18 at the time of applying for housing, your parent or guardian will need to verify the application and acknowledgment of the license agreement. They’ll get an email with instructions on how to complete this verification.

Sophomore and Above Application Process

The application for Sophomore and Above Housing will open the week of February 17, 2025, for the Fall 2025 – Spring 2026 academic year. Complete your housing application by Friday, Feb. 21, 2025, to participate in the Room Selection Process.

Once the application is live and you start applying, you’ll be asked to complete the following:

• Electronically sign the academic year license agreement.
• Select your top 4 communities.
• Pay a $75 nonrefundable application fee*.
• Contact the Educational Access Center if you need accommodations.
• Register for renters insurance through GradGuard, a Boise State University partner if you don’t already have renters insurance.
• Complete a Roommate Profile. Share about your interests, preferences, and lifestyle to set the stage for a supportive and respectful living environment.
• Check your Boise State email frequently for important updates.

Roommate Matching

To support a positive and successful living environment, complete your Roommate Profile during the Housing application process:

• Roommate Profile: This resource is available to help students share information about their preferences, habits, and lifestyles when it comes to living with a roommate. Students are asked to provide things like sleep schedules, study habits, cleanliness preferences, social habits, and personal interests.
• Roommate Matching: Students who apply before the Housing Application deadline are invited to participate in roommate matching. Students can view Roommate Profiles of other applicants and reach out to those they feel would be a good match. They may message each other through the Housing portal to discuss compatibility before finalizing the match.
• Honors or LLP: First year applicants, if you received an Honors or LLP community assignment on Thursday, May 8, then you’ll be invited to exclusively match with roommates who have been assigned to the same community.

Roommate Matching

• First-Year Roommate Matching: May 12 through May 23, 2025.
• Sophomore and Above Roommate Matching: February 24 through March 7, 2025.

Students who Opt-out of Roommate Matching or who apply after the Housing Application deadlines will not participate in the roommate matching process. However, these students may still view the roommate profiles of other applicants when they are invited to enter the room selection process, allowing opportunities for strategic selection.

Note: You may request to live with someone you already know by pairing with them in roommate matching, or by emailing housing@boisestate.edu after submitting your housing application. Each individual must confirm the request is mutual before a roommate group can be finalized.

Room Selection

This year, students are expected to self-select their room within the Housing Portal. Students who apply by the housing application deadlines will receive a room selection time through an electronic lottery system. Students who apply after the housing deadlines will be invited to select a room as space becomes available. Following their assigned room selection time, students may view and book available room options.

First-Year Housing Application Deadline: Thursday, May 1, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. (MDT)

Sophomore and Above Housing Application Deadline: Friday, Feb. 21, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. (MST)

2025-2026 Academic Year

Consider the following details for a positive room selection experience:

First-Year Students

The following room selection process is available to First-Year students who applied by the May 1 deadline.

Tuesday, May 27, 2025: Room Selection Time Slots Sent to BroncoMail

• Students will receive an email in their BroncoMail inbox with their personalized time slot for accessing the housing portal to select their room. Students in roommate groups will be entitled to select rooms on behalf of their group. For this reason, we recommend having the roommate with the earliest time slot login for room selection.

Week of June 2: Room Selection for LLP and Honors Students desiring housing in Honors Hall

• Because these students are assigned to dedicated housing areas, students who are accepted as part of the Living-Learning Program (LLP) or are in the Honors Program will select their rooms first.
• Why this is important: This group has been prioritized for their academic achievements or involvement in specialized living-learning communities. To learn more about LLPs, visit here. These students will only be entitled to select rooms within their assigned communities.

Week of June 9: Room Selection for Blue Group

• Students in this group will be assigned room selection time slots throughout the entire week of June 9. Time Slots are determined by an electronic lottery system.
• Important Details: Blue Group does not have a higher advantage for room selection over Orange Group. Half of our housing inventory is set aside for Blue Group selection, and the other half is set aside for Orange Group selection.

Week of June 23: Room Selection for Orange Group

• Students in this group will be assigned room selection time slots throughout the entire week of June 23. Time Slots are determined by an electronic lottery system.
• Important Details: Orange Group is not at a disadvantage from Blue Group. Half of our housing inventory is set aside for Orange Group selection.

Sophomore and Above Students

The following room selection process is available to Sophomore and Above students who apply by the February 21 deadline.

Wednesday, March 12, 2025: Room Selection Time Slots Sent to BroncoMail

• Students will receive an email in their BroncoMail inbox with their personalized time slot for when they may access the housing portal to select their room. Students in roommate groups will be entitled to select rooms on behalf of their group. For this reason, we recommend having the roommate with the earliest time slot login for room selection.
• Important Details: Once a student enters the Housing Portal, they will be entitled to view and book available room options. Be sure to check back, as openings and room swaps are available even after the initial opening window.

Move-In Day- Fall 2025

Move-In Day for our general population is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 21, and Friday, Aug. 22. The first week of July, students will be sent instructions to select their preferred move-in appointment time.

Preparing for Move-In

Once you’ve selected your room assignment and get to know your roommates, start planning on what you would like to bring with you to school. Use our What to Bring and What to Leave Home page on the website to help you pack.

Prior to moving onto campus, please complete the following:

• Make your first housing payment by August 21, 2025.
• Register for classes if you haven’t already.
• Check to be sure you’re enrolled in at least 12 credits (this is the minimum to be eligible for on-campus housing).

If you are bringing a vehicle to campus for the academic year, reach out to Parking and Transportation to ask about purchasing a parking pass.

Gender Inclusive Housing

Gender-inclusive housing is an option that you can select as a preference when you apply to live on campus.

Gender Inclusive

“Gender Inclusive” housing means that you might be housed with any other student regardless of their gender identity or sex. For example:

• If you want to live with a friend who is not the same gender as you, you can both select “Gender Inclusive” housing and match with each other during the roommate matching process. You may also select Gender Inclusive Housing if you don’t have a roommate preference but would like to live with people of a different gender or sex.

Gender Inclusive Housing Assignments

There are a lot of reasons why you may choose gender-inclusive housing as an option, but here are some things to remember:

• Gender-inclusive housing is offered, as space is available, in several of our suite-style residence halls including the Honors College and Sawtooth Hall, Lincoln Townhomes, The Osprey, University Square, and University Suites. Please contact our office if these halls don’t meet your budget but you are interested in gender-inclusive housing.
• As with all of our housing options, for the best chance of getting your housing preference, it’s important to apply early and show up for your assigned room selection time.
• If we don’t have space for all applicants who request gender-inclusive housing, we will house people who request gender-inclusive housing according to the gender identity listed on their application.
• In order to be assigned to gender-inclusive housing all students in the unit must have requested “Gender Inclusive” as a preference on the housing application.

Eligibility to Live On-Campus

In order to live on campus, you must be admitted to the university and enrolled in 12 or more credits by the time you physically move into campus housing. The first priority goes to full-time students. First-year students must complete the intent to enroll in order to access the application.

Classification concerns may be considered on a limited, individual basis. If you don’t meet the requirements of the classification details linked above but feel you have extenuating circumstances, contact Housing and Residence Life for consideration.

First-Year Residence Halls

First Year Residence Halls for Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 include Chaffee, Driscoll, Honors College, Sawtooth Hall, Keiser, Morrison, Taylor, University Square, Towers, and our New First-Year Residence Hall, opening Fall 2025.

Sophomore and Above

Sophomore and Above residence halls include Lincoln Townhomes, The Osprey, Honors College, and University Suites.

Undergraduate students who are 26 years and older, graduate students, and families interested in on-campus housing should instead consider applying for an On-Campus Apartment or learn more about resources through our Off-Campus Marketplace.
