Moving Out Process and Details
Are you moving out of the apartments?
When it’s time to move out, you’ll follow the checkout process listed in this page. Please note your account may be charged an improper check-out charge of $150 and/or a lock change if the check-out process is not followed and/or keys are not returned on time, in addition to any applicable cleaning and damage charges.
Any Additional closing information will be provided via email as needed. Failure to follow posted and written information about the check-out process may result in additional administrative charges. This includes check-outs during the middle of the year due to transferring units and requesting to terminate your license agreement early.
If any of your property is left behind, you will be charged for the removal of any property and daily storage fees. If it is not reclaimed, it will be treated as abandoned property, and the university may donate or otherwise dispose of such property without liability.
Leaving After Occupancy
The license agreement you signed when you applied for housing is a legally binding document from the day you move-in to May 31. If you are seeking to terminate your license agreement and any of the following 4 reasons listed apply to you, you will be released from your license agreement without penalty.
- Complete withdrawal from Boise State for medical reasons.
- Enrollment and participation in an approved university study abroad program.
- Drafted or commissioned by the U.S. Armed Forces for active duty.
- A resident graduating can terminate the Agreement effective on the last day of the month of such graduation or commencement.

Termination date must be no sooner than thirty (30) days after submission of the Release Request. To start a Release Request, log into your My Housing Portal and submit a Release Request form.
Check Out Process
To prepare to move out of your university apartment, please complete the following steps on or before your move out date.
- Clean your bedroom and all shared spaces.
- Remove all personal items from the apartment; any left items will result in disposal/moving fees.
- Complete a final walkthrough of your apartment on your own.
- Check your mailbox one last time.
- Stop by the apartment office, open daily between 9 am and 6 pm, to return your keys (apartment, mailbox, laundry) and be officially checked out of your apartment. If you need to return your keys outside of office hours, please drop them in the black key box located next to the office entrance by the playground and email us at apartments@boisestate.edu to let us know they’ve been returned.
* Once you move out we will walk your unit for any additional cleaning or damage charges that would be removed from your security deposit. You will see your returned security deposit in your student account within 30 days of your move out. Please let us know if you have any questions. Thank you.
Check Out Fees
