FAQ Sparklight Discontinuation of Bulk Video Service

Sparklight/CableOne is discontinuing its bulk video service nationwide at the end of the year. In light of that, they have scheduled Boise State’s services to be discontinued starting December 20th, 2021. This means that students at the university will no longer be able to plug their coax cable into the wiring in the facilities and get access to cable television. In an effort to make this transition as smooth as possible here are some commonly asked questions about their recent communication.

Is Boise State Housing and Residence Life discontinuing our cable TV service?

No, Boise State and Housing and Residence Life are not discontinuing this service. Sparklight/CableOne the service provider is discontinuing the service nationwide.

Will Housing and Residence Life replace bulk video service with another tv product?

Sparklight/CableOne does not have a replacement product for this service; they are simply discontinuing it without a replacement plan. So there is nothing for Housing and Residence Life to replace it with. 

What are my options to get cable television in my apartment?

There are a number of streaming services that you can sign up for. Some include:

Can I get a personal Cable TV subscription with Sparklight?

Yes, they have an IPTV (internet protocol tv) option that you can purchase through Sparklight. Here is a link to the product they offer and the contact info to get signed up.

Can I seek alternatives not listed above (like Direct TV)?

Yes, however, the university prohibits physical alterations to the living spaces. This limits one’s ability to install fixtures (i.e. satellite dishes) and/or drill holes in walls (to run cable lines)

How do I return my cable box?

Contact the apartment office via email if you are unsure how to remove the cable boxes. Otherwise, you can bring it to the main apartment office in Village.  For all boxes that cannot be easily removed from the space, we will have a representative come to your apartment to safely remove it.

What happens if I don’t return my box?

The boxes are Sparklight property, the goal is to get them all returned safely. You may be charged for damaged or missing boxes.

What happens if my room didn’t have a box when I moved in?

Please email the apartment office as soon as possible.
