A history column written by Todd Shallat, titled “Not every Idahoan mourned Lincoln’s assassination,” ran in the April 19 Idaho Statesman. Shallat noted that some parts of the state were heavily populated with Confederates who had come in droves to Idaho’s gold camps following their service in the Civil War.
