To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the end of the American Civil War, Professors Walker and Krohn, with research assistant Kate Claussen created a library exhibit in which they addressed the prevailing themes and problems that defined the era.

In contrast to an enduring public memory that mistakenly places states’ rights doctrines and small-government and anti-taxation ideologies at the center of the sectional conflict, this display stresses the actual role that the issues of slaveryand race played in the coming, course, and consequences of the Civil War.

Through the inclusion of historical artifacts and images, as well as explanatory texts, Professors Walker and Krohn emphasize the overall meaning of the bloodiest war in United States history, for past and present Americans alike.

The exhibit will run inside the Library until April 13th.
