Tiffeny Stees, Master of Social Work student and intern with the Center for the Study of Aging and Idaho Caregiver Alliance, contributed to an article specially featured in the Idaho Statesman which was authored by Elke Shaw-Tulloch’s, state health officer and Division of Public Health administrator with the Department of Health and Welfare.
The article, “If You Take Care of a Loved One, Take Care of Yourself Too,” explains that the number of family caregivers in Idaho is growing. The authors explain that the most important thing a caregiver can do for themselves is realize that, “although they are superheroes to their loved ones, they do not have superpowers and they need to take breaks.”
November is National Family Caregiver Month, and the article encourages readers to take some time to recognize themselves or a caregiver in their lives for the work they do. The authors also encourage readers to take time to investigate or provide respite care opportunities for themselves or another caregiver.
