Jaime Sand, BS, MA, RHIT, CCS, faculty in the Department of Community and Environmental Health, and Patt Elison-Bowers, PhD, chair of the Department of Psychological Science, have had an article, “ICD-10-CM/PCS: Transferring knowledge from ICD-9-CM,” accepted for publication in the summer 2013 edition of the peer-reviewed journal, Perspectives in Health Information Management.
The article focuses on the research conducted to identify if there is a difference between a group of subjects with no knowledge of ICD-9-CM and those with some knowledge of ICD-9-CM in their performance on an ICD-10-CM/PCS quiz. Research results indicate that there is a difference, supporting the idea of knowledge transfer between the systems and providing additional insight into coding education.
