Communications and Marketing Team

Derek has worked as a marketing and communications professional in higher education for nine years. He is passionate about institutional growth through marketing strategy, brand-messaging and new ideas that bring ‘lift’ to an organization. Derek is originally from the Pacific Northwest, where he spent lots of time out in the rain. However, the dry sunny climate of southern Idaho has grown on him. Derek enjoys recreation with his family, movie nights, reading classic literature and fitness. When he’s not doing any of that, he’s usually on a skateboard at the local skate park.

Danya coordinates communication efforts in the College of Health Sciences. She started her communications career at Boise State in 2008. In addition to managing a student communications and marketing team to support communication and marketing efforts at the college-level, she runs a Communications Task Force to encourage professional development and collaboration among communicators and marketers within the units of the college.

Danya is a member of Higher Ed Web, Campus Brand Communicators, Enterprise Brand Partners, Academic Web group, the Commencement committee, the BroncoDay academics sub-committee, the Professional Staff Association, and several communications working groups at the university.

Danya holds a BA in theatre arts from Linfield University and a MFA in dramaturgy from SUNY Stonybrook. She loves stories in all forms – books, film, tv, podcasts, theatre. She adores her pitbull mix, Martini, and enjoys walking and hiking with her curious, social butterfly. She also enjoys cooking and gardening.

Audrey Wilson, the Communications Assistant, is a junior studying Health Data Analytics at Boise State. Audrey manages the college’s social media and helps maintain its websites. Audrey’s free time consists of outdoor activities and seeing friends and family! Passionate about public health, Audrey plans to pursue further education in a related field after graduation.

Emma Hilburn is a senior in the Graphic Design program at Boise State University. She is an event planner for the Student Association of Graphic Arts on campus. In her free time, Emma enjoys rock climbing, skiing, and crafting. After graduating, she plans on pursuing a career in brand identity design.

Hi! My name is Anabel, though I typically go by Ann. I’m currently in my second year at Boise State, and I’m a Philosophy major hoping to work in Bioethics or agricultural ethics. I’ve always known that I would attend Boise State, and it’s been an amazing experience so far! When I’m not working or studying, I enjoy listening to hard rock and metal, sewing, and spending time with my friends and family.

Allison is a senior studying creative writing and psychology. In her free time, she likes to read nonfiction, write poetry and create art out of any and all mediums. She can be found cuddling with her two cats or outside collecting wildflowers on the trails of Boise. Allison enjoys writing so much she wants to pursue her masters at Boise State or another university and eventually become a professor of literature.

Sam Butler is a second year at Boise State University and is studying Health Science on the path to become a PA. He enjoys creating short-form content the most, whether that be for sports teams, events, professional work, or content from his own adventures. Sam likes videography because it lets him create art and tell a story at the same time. In his free time Sam is an avid snowboarder, mountain biker, and outdoor enthusiast.
