Twenty five students from the Radiologic Sciences Program partnered with teachers from Koelsch Elementary School to perform a gap analysis on health and safety needs, create educational sessions that address K-6 critical health and esteem issues, and organize a health fair that was held on April 26 from 8am to 4pm throughout the school. The Boise State students provided interactive, hands-on sessions covering a vast array of topics including bone and heart health, lung and skin cancer prevention, personal hygiene and cleanliness, nutrition and exercise, media safety, first aid, and outdoor safety.
The students wish to thank Albertsons, Dairy Council of Idaho, American Lung Association and Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, all of whom assisted in the success of the event by making generous donations of watermelons, milk, band-aids, sunscreen, first aid kits, hand sanitizer, and pedometers for every student. The American Lung Association provided two sets of real pig lungs — a 30-year smoking pair and a healthy pair. Approximately 400 students were provided this learning opportunity.
