Jaime Sand, assistant professor in the Department of Community and Environmental Health, has been busy collaborating on research, writing and professional development. Sand and T.J. Wing, assistant professor in the Department of Respiratory Care, along with Patt Elison-Bowers and Rose Barlow, Department of Psychological Science, published an article, “Strategies for Managing Large Online Classes,” in “The International Journal of Learning.” It highlights lessons learned and best practices in the administration of online classes with as many as 150 students.
Sand attended the 83rd annual AHIMA Convention & Exhibit in October in Salt Lake City, Utah with Linda Osgood, assistant professor in the Department of Community and Environmental Health. This three-day session included such key topics as meaningful use and HITECH, ICD-10, the electronic health record (EHR), compliance and quality reporting, and clinical documentation improvement. Sand is an industry-approved trainer for the ICD-10 and conducts trainings periodically, most recently in October 2011.
In service to the College of Health Sciences’ Undergraduate Strategic Plan Team, Sand and Radiologic Sciences Associate Professor Leslie Kendrick attended the Third Biennial Interprofessional Educational Conference, Collaborating Across Borders III (CAB III), in November in Tucson, Ariz. It is a joint conference between the U.S. and Canada that focuses on issues of interprofessional education and practice. It featured best practices and lessons learned, highlighted outcomes, and provided valuable networking opportunities. As part of the college’s strategic plan, the college is developing and implementing an interprofessional capstone course.
