Dr. Barbara Minton, PhD, BCN, QEEG-D, is a Clinical Psychologist in private practice in Boise, Idaho. She earned a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Denver and was a faculty member at the University of Alaska for nine years. In Alaska, she worked to develop culturally sensitive mental health services in rural areas as well as services for severely emotionally disturbed children and their families. After relocating back to Idaho, she became board certified in neurofeedback by the Biofeedback Certification International Alliance and a Diplomate in Quantitative Electroencephalography by the International QEEG Certification Board. She is committed to ongoing training and consultation related to the integration of technology in mental health practice and is excited to share her expertise is this unique continuing education opportunity.
Course Description: Participants will be introduced to a variety of technologies available for use by mental health practitioners, including biofeedback (e.g., heart rate variability (HRV), skin conductance, respiration, temperature), neurofeedback, smart phone apps, wearable technologies, virtual reality, and stimulation modalities such as PEMF and tDCS. Dr. Minton will demonstrate technologies with volunteers and lead discussions regarding ethical considerations of using technology in clinical practice, including training and supervision, scope of practice, and potential harm.
