The Rural & Underserved Utah Training Experience (RUUTE) program at the University of Utah School of Medicine (UUSOM)
If you are preparing to apply to medical school in the near future, the RUUTE program would like to share an exciting announcement with you and your students!
The UUSOM is introducing the RUUTE Scholars program! RUUTE Scholars was created in conjunction with the mission and vision of the Rural & Underserved Utah Training Experience (RUUTE) program to improve medical education and training in rural/underserved areas by expanding interest and awareness to students. RUUTE Scholars will accept up to 20 matriculated medical students into the program each academic year.
Once matriculated, students will meet specific required and recommended criteria for achieving the RUUTE Scholars designation by which of four areas of engagement: Academic, Community, Clinical, and Service. All students regardless of residency state are encouraged to apply to RUUTE Scholars if interested. Along with the UUSOM Admissions office and others, we hope RUUTE Scholars will be a program many are interested in, specifically those from, or wish, to practice in rural and underserved areas.
We encourage advisors and students to visit our RUUTE Scholars website for additional criteria details and a RUUTE Scholars FAQ page. The RUUTE Scholars application will be available through the traditional UUSOM MD secondary application process.
Thank you for all you do for your students and the future physicians of Utah and the surrounding states. If you have any further questions, please email RUUTE@umail.utah.edu.
