New Graduate Program Admission Worksheet

Cohort – The program admits a group of students at the same time.

Rolling – The program evaluates applications as they are received and admits applicants at any time during the open application period.

Batch – The program admits in cohort-like batches until all available seats are filled.

All graduate admission applications must have an admission deadline.

The Academic Calendar lists the recommended priority admission deadlines as:

Fall – January 15
Spring – September 15

Programs are not obligated to use the recommended priority deadlines but are asked, if possible, to set a priority deadline using the recommended date(s) and a final application deadline.

Programs can set final admission deadlines to any date providing the final deadline is on or before the dates listed below:

Fall – August 1
Spring – December 15

International graduate applicants must demonstrate their proficiency in English in order to be considered for admission to Boise State. There are two approved minimum score sets programs may select to demonstrate English proficiency.

Standard
TOEFL – iBT: 80, pBT (revised): 60, pBT (old): 550, IELTS – 6.5

Higher
TOEFL – iBT: 95, pBT (revised): 72, pBT (old): 587, IELTS – 6.5

The Graduate College requires applicants to a graduate degree or certificate program to submit all official transcripts from each educational institution attended in order to calculate GPAs for program review.

Application Letter – addresses the applicant’s background, goals, interest, and potential advisors. Examples may include: background, experience, or aptitude; professional or career goals, objectives, aspirations, and area(s) of interest in the program; how the program will help the applicant to achieve these goals or be successful; and the names of Boise State University faculty members/mentors that the applicant is most interested in conducting research or collaborating with.

Personal Statement – addresses program-specific questions not included in the Application Letter. Non-exhaustive list of examples from existing graduate applications: strategies the applicant will use to be successful in online graduate study; if the applicant would like a teaching assistantship and/or research fellowship; proof of an applicant’s commitment to advocacy; rationale for choosing one (or more) specialization area(s); or an applicant’s personal strengths.
