Course finder

The Course Finder is a database that allows you to search for study abroad courses that have been pre-approved as equivalents for specific Boise State courses. You can search by country, city, discipline, course number, or keyword.

This is by no means an exhaustive list of the courses you can take while abroad. Courses can change and GL is not responsible for changes in course levels or content. GL will post the classes to your transcript based on the official grades sent by the program or university.

This database is constantly expanding as new courses are approved and new programs are added. If you wish to take a course that is not listed in the database, you just need to contact the person in the appropriate academic department to determine if the class is equivalent to a course offered at Boise State.

You must be certain that the class you take is the correct level of course you need to graduate. Verify with your program that a course is lower or upper division and will be sent to Boise State as such.

Study abroad electives

Boise State uses the course numbers 239  (lower division) and 439 (upper division) for study abroad courses that do not have equivalents at Boise State (Italian History, for instance.) These courses are considered electives, but can often count towards requirements for your major, minor, or disciplinary lens courses.

Important note about the course finder

Please be aware that the most updated information about what courses will be offered by specific programs during specific terms can be found on the program website.

While the Course Finder does list which term(s) a course is typically offered, you are advised to confirm this by visiting the program website to be sure it will be offered during the term you are abroad.

Please confirm with your program regarding whether a course is currently offered as upper or lower division credit.

NSE Course Approvals

For NSE course approvals, please use the Transfer Equivalency System (TES) to determine if your host university are pre-approved. If they are not listed in this database, you will need to follow the same course approval process mentioned before for study abroad course approvals.

Course Finder

Many course approvals in the Course Finder have expired. Any course listed as “in review” will need an approval from a department chair.  Courses listed as “obtain approval” need an approval from a department chair or designate.
