Honoring Their Daughter's Legacy
These proud alumni remain deeply involved with Boise State today, so much so that after the passing of their daughter, Ruth, shortly after birth, they launched the Ruth E. Kiehl Memorial Scholarship to support nursing students. “Both her nursing care, as well as ours, left a lasting impact on our family; this scholarship helps benefit students studying labor and delivery and NICU nursing,” Laura says.
Endowed Professorships Attract Top Faculty
Endowed professorships underwrite salary and other related costs for tenured faculty who exhibit special academic promise. Professorships may be offered to attract faculty who are rising stars in their fields or to recognize academic achievement by current faculty.
For example, the Lee Pesky Learning Center was founded in 1997 in honor of Alan and Wendy Pesky’s son, Lee. And, thanks to the generosity of Alan and Wendy, College of Education faculty member Evelyn Johnson is the center’s Scientific Director and holds the Lee Pesky Learning Center Endowed Professor position.
Scholarships are Gateway to Success
John DeRoos, a senior communication major and Honors College student is one of our scholarship recipients. John came to Boise State as a nontraditional student, having already entered the workforce and started a family.
Maximizing Their Contribution
Originally from Banks, Oregon, Gabe Linehan (BBA, ‘13), joined Boise State and the Bronco football team as a redshirt freshman in 2009. The next year he started his first career game against Hawaii and caught six passes for 82 yards and a touchdown.
Now, Linehan carries the hammer as a Financial Representative at Northwestern Mutual Financial Network in Boise. In his position, Linehan is leading the charge and encouraging colleagues, clients and the public to maximize their donations to Boise State University through a gift of life insurance.
Linehan and seven other Boise State alumni and Northwestern Mutual employees each established life insurance policies naming the Boise State University Foundation as owner and beneficiary with a collective face value just over $1 million.
