Michael (Mick) and Cathy Whitlock believe that investing in students’ education today provides a workforce that benefits the greater society tomorrow. This is why these Loyal Broncos – donors who give consecutively for five years or more – invest in Boise State University and its students. The Whitlocks have financially supported Boise State’s mission annually for more than 20 years.
“We realize the high cost of providing world-class facilities and programs necessary to recruit the high level of faculty, staff and students that Boise State University is attracting,” Mick said. “We donate because we believe in Boise State’s goal of becoming a renowned, metropolitan, doctoral research institution.”
Mick, ’70, ’75, holds two business degrees from Boise State in marketing and accounting, respectively. Both say the knowledge and education they received at Boise State helped provide opportunities for their careers.
In addition to support in various areas at the university, the Whitlocks also founded the Michael and Cathy Whitlock Math and Science Scholarship and the Michael and Cathy Football Scholarship.
“We have seen the trend of diminished state funding for higher education,” Mick said. “We were fortunate to attend Boise State when it was more affordable, and that is one of the reasons we donate today, to help make it possible for others to graduate without incurring large debts.”
The university’s growth and the success of the Bronco family of faculty, staff and, particularly, the students or future leaders is why Boise State is a good investment, Mick said.
“We enjoy learning about these accomplishments and believe that it is so important that higher education continues to prepare the workforce for the future. We all need their skills,” Mick said. “Boise State University continues to enrich our lives in many ways, and we feel fortunate to be able to give something back.”
