Working with your mentor group, you will develop a “Legislative Advocacy Project.” This is a lot like doing an independent research project with mentor guidance. If you are interested in this option, you will identify a piece of legislation that was recently considered by the Idaho legislature and research the various civic and other interest groups that informed the legislation and its outcome.
Interested in health care? Gun rights? Racial justice? Education? You can work with your mentor to choose an area of interest to you, and then explore how the media, lobbyists, lawmakers, and others shape what kinds of laws take place in our state.
You’ll also get experience communicating what you know by writing an letter to the editor, blog post, or other final project that allows you to talk about what you’ve learned with a broader audiences.
