Stillness

fragmented photographs are spliced together to create an abstract image of nature
Lee Emmert, Terrarium, 2025, photographic print on cotton rag

March 2 – April 3, 2025

Student Union Fine Arts Gallery

Lee Emmert’s photography combines close-up, fragmented images of nature and organizes them into large scale gridded and modular compositions. Emmert pushes the boundaries of how images can construct meaning though his use of overlapping, blurring, and textual interplay within his pieces. Emmert’s work challenges the relationship between photographs and reality, exposing how media and technology can affect one’s connection to nature.

Made possible with support from Boise State’s Idaho Film Collection.

Threads of Humanity

artwork of a landscape with a dusty rose sky and hills in the foreground
Sylvia Plimack Mangold, Untitled (Landscape), 1983, pastel and watercolor on paper

January 13 – March 2, 2025

SUB Curatorial Assistants Eden Sanborn and Karlee Wilson curated a variety of artworks from the Boise State Permanent Art Collection that represent themes of humanity within abstracted and representational art.

Within each artwork, a variety of human interaction can be examined and explored through the consideration of subject matter and the processes these artists took to create their works. This consideration creates a narrative combining connection and play as they work together through the interactions of each piece chosen for this exhibition.
