Teaching for Hope & Humanity - a Boise State Writing Project Conference

March 2 @ 8:30 am - 3:30 pm MST

Democracy building instruction to combat disengagement, information pollution, and other real world challenges, and meet our deepest commitments, hopes, and values. Sponsored by the National Writing Project, the conference is engaging instruction for all levels. Experience insights, strategies, and lessons using document-based guided inquiries (using primary sources, data, and multimodal texts), focused on engaging students in respectful dialogue around contended issues of American history and culture. Sessions are presented by local teachers! Free and open to all teachers, instructors, and education students. Come participate in sessions led by teacher leaders and thinking partners from Idaho on teaching essential skills, news literacy, and the dispositions to promote democracy. At the conference you’ll also have an opportunity to engage in a Narrative 4 story exchange – a powerful strategy to promote curiosity, deep listening, and social imagination in students. Professional development credit is available for $60. Breakfast snacks and lunch provided. With questions or comments, contact Dr. Jeff Wilhelm at: jwilhelm@boisestate.edu.
