Memory-Centric Computing: Architecting the Future of Digital Hardware

August 28 @ 10:30 am - 11:45 am

As we approach the Beyond Moore’s Law era, the advancement of digital computing increasingly relies on architectural innovations rather than technology scaling. A major challenge in advancing digital computing is overcoming the so-called ‘memory bottleneck’ issue of conventional hardware. Memory-centric, both a revolutionary and evolutionary computing model, overcomes the memory bottlenecks by seamlessly integrating the processor and memory into a unified entity. Memory-centric accelerators are ideal for processing a large subset of today’s data-intensive applications, including AI, cryptography, big data, graph processing, and cloud computing. This talk will explore key questions about pioneering Memory-centric computing as a viable alternative to traditional hardware: How should we architect Memory-centric systems? What are the associated design challenges? And how can we integrate such hardware into existing computing infrastructures?

Speaker Bio

Purab Sutradhar is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Boise State University. He earned his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 2024. His research is centered on designing novel, heterogeneous computing systems, with a particular emphasis on Memory-centric architectures, aiming at low-power, energy-efficient processing of AI, Cryptography, and other data-intensive applications.

About our Program

The ECE Seminar is designed to engage students in their discipline. Although many topics are specific to electrical and computer engineering, all campus community members are welcome to attend.

Refreshments are provided by the ECE Department. Join us at 10:30 AM every Wednesday to network and sign in. Out of respect for our speakers, please arrive on time.
