The Department of Theatre, Film and Creative Writing and the Film Lecture Series presents Max Newman, a screenwriter and showrunner. Newman will give a talk followed by a Q and A at 7 PM on Monday, February 12, in the Great Hall of the Hemingway Center. This event is free and open to the public.
Max grew up on a farm full of Jews in Indiana, spending his days yearning for a nose job and his nights watching In Living Color. After dropping out of rabbinical school, Max performed stand-up all over NYC and wrote several segments for the International Emmy Awards. Arriving in LA, and after receiving his MFA in Screenwriting from University of Southern California’s prestigious School of Cinematic Arts, Max came-up in the Lena Waithe camp working on BOOMERANG, TWENTIES and THE CHI. Eventually, Max became the man of many shows at REVOLT where Max was Head Writer & Showrunner on State of the Culture, a late night hip hop show… so, if you’re a rapper, Max has probably worked with you. And if you’re a bagel, Max has definitely digested you. Max now writes for World Wrestling Entertainment in their Creative Media Department.
