Boise State Claims Vanta Hawai’i Title, Sets Stage for Championship Push

The Boise State Valorant team won the Vanta Hawaii Invitational over spring break, showing once again why they’re one of the premier programs in collegiate esports. While most students were enjoying a well-deserved rest, the Broncos were grinding—and it paid off in a big way.

A weekend in paradise delivered big results, as the Broncos took down University of Hawai’i and Hawai’i Pacific University, as well as fellow PEC foe Michigan State. The prize? Some much needed energy headed into the most important part of the season… and a pretty cool surfboard of a trophy.

Kelsey “Coach K” Moser and Nom led the Broncos to victory, something that has become a common occurrence. Boise State’s Valorant team has had its fair share of success this year and along the way in Hawai’i, the Broncos claimed their spot in the Spring Mountain West championship game. With the weekend’s success came two other exciting milestones: qualification for this year’s May Madness, and Boise State Esports’ 1,499th all time win. Head Coach Doc Haskell liked what he saw from his squad this weekend:

“One of my favorite things about this team is that they don’t give a damn about what anybody thinks of them. They don’t care if people think they’re the best or not—they have no ego about it. There are other teams—that’s all they think about. They simply do the work. No one should want to play this squad that Coach K and Nom lead.”

This was the Broncos’ first trip to the Vanta Invitational, and the first time Boise State Esports has competed on the islands. The Broncos also competed in the Open Smash Tournament, and participated in a cultural exchange with players from the other competing schools.

The surfboard will certainly be a welcomed addition to the Bronco’s trophy case, one that is already in desperate need of expansion. It will certainly be the most unique trophy of the lot, but now the team turns their attention to the business end of the campaign, where the stakes are highest and only the sharpest survive.

The Mountain West Championships are in just a few days time, marking the beginning of the most important month in recent memory for the Broncos. Two conference championship tournaments, including the inaugural PEC Championship in Las Vegas at the HyperX Arena, and multiple shots at a national championships are on the cards for Coach Haskell’s teams.

With momentum on their side, the Broncos are prepared to enter the arena as conquerors, with their destiny still well within reach. Boise State Esports has already made history this year, and now stands on the brink of even more—a challenge they’ll gladly take on.
