Boise State Rocket League set to compete on world stage

Boise State’s Rocket League team has another chance to take home a trophy this year, this time on the world stage. In response to Rocket League developer Psyonix’s official Collegiate Rocket League (CRL) tournament being put on hiatus, a new tournament, UniRocketters, has sprung up to take its place. The best news? Boise State already qualified for this world championship.

Sixteen teams from around the globe will get the chance to compete. Twelve of those teams will come from Europe (EU) and North America (NA), six from each region. These two regions previously competed in CRL. However, unlike CRL, four additional teams from new regions of the world will compete at UniRocketters, those regions being Oceania (OCE), Middle East North Africa (MENA), South America (SAM), and Sub Saharan Africa (SSA).

Four teams with winning records in CRL events already prequalified for the event. These universities were Dr. Buhmann Academy (EU), University of Genoa (EU), Boise State University (NA), and Ball State University (NA). For Boise State and Ball State, the tournament offers a chance for a rematch after their competitive CECC championship match that took place earlier this year.

For the twelve open tournament slots, qualifiers will take place throughout the rest of July. The qualifying teams, Boise State included, will compete in the tournament’s swiss stage on Saturday, August 10. The top eight teams from that stage will move onto playoffs, taking place the next day, Sunday, August 11. The main tournament matches will be broadcasted on UniRocketter’s Twitch channel.
