Just because it’s summer doesn’t mean Boise State is shying away from esports competition. The Boise State Rocket League team recently traveled to Las Vegas to compete at Infocomm 2024, an annual trade show for the AV industry. The Broncos competed alongside 5 other universities in Infocomm’s Esports Live 2.0 event and competition. The Bronco’s not only held their own against the competitors, but won the event outright, taking home a new trophy and prize money.
Infocomm is an annual AV industry trade show held by the Audiovisual and Integrated Experience Association (AVIXA). This year, the conference took place in Las Vegas, and had a dedicated esports experience called Esports Live 2.0. The exhibition featured areas dedicated to every aspect of esports. One area included a production stage showcasing the latest broadcast technology. There was also a shout casting area where attendees could meet with real casters and learn all about how to put on a great show in front of the camera. Additionally, there was also a coach’s stage where university esports coaches and industry professionals shared their knowledge about program leadership.
Last but not least was the gaming stage, which hosted an exciting collegiate Rocket League tournament. Six universities came to the event to compete. These universities were Boise State University, Faulkner University, Grand Canyon University, Talladega College, USC, and UNLV. Boise State brought their varsity team, which included Emiliano “Durtho” Flores, Cade “Wuzy” Hall, and Preston “Prstn” Ferrante. The Infocomm victory capped off one of the most exciting semesters the Rocket League team has ever had, filled with exciting postseason showdowns.
