The Boise State Halo team recently traveled to Kentucky to face off in the 2023 UKY Halo Preseason Invitational. The event was held on February 18th and brought together some of the top collegiate Halo talent in the nation. Four varsity students along with coach Alex Moore flew to Kentucky to compete.
Boise State competed along with 10 other teams in the double elimination tournament. Each round was a best of five match. The team started off the tournament well by winning their first match against University of New Haven, a common scrim partner of Boise State. However, the Broncos fell afterwards to Oklahoma Christian, who were the 2022 AVGL Halo Champions. The Bronco’s placed fourth overall in the tournament, falling to the University of Kentucky Buckeyes during the lower bracket semi-finals.
Afterwards, Fisher Esports won the tournament in the grand finals 4-1 against Oklahoma Christian. The University of Kentucky is currently partnered with professional Esports team GenG, and is hosting a variety of competitive gaming event in partnership with the organization, this tournament being one of them.
The event marked the first time Boise State Halo has traveled to compete in a tournament. Formerly, the varsity team made waves by wining the ECAC 2022 Halo championships. You can catch more of the Boise State Halo team by visiting the Boise State Esports Twitch and Youtube pages.
