Justin Lester, Boise State
They have been stewing over their loss to the Broncos at the 2019 MWC semi-finals since March. The Cadets of the Air Force Academy HAD them right where they wanted. After winning the first game on strong top lane play, they believed they would avenge the regular-season loss at the hands of Dean Wood and the Boise State League of Legends team in the most dramatic location possible; at the conference championship in Las Vegas.
But Doc, Dean, and the boys had a different plan, “throw away the results of first game, the over-confidence, and just play smart. Farm, play for first Dragon and first tower, and the game would come to us.” The plan worked, and the next two games went the Broncos way. Air Force was sent to the consolation game while Boise State advanced to their second consecutive MWC title game.
The Cadets of Air Force have never forgotten that game as their program has continued to grow under the direction of John Williams, CIO of the Air Force Athletic Corporation, the civilian athletic department of the military school. With the AF Football team scheduled to play on The Blue, the invitation to the Falcons was made, and accepted, early. The Cadets (all active military students) would make the trip to Boise to play as part of the festivities leading up to the football game.
