Environment Passport

The Environment Passport in the School of the Environment

The Environment Passport (ARTSCI 297/ ARTSCI 497) lets you earn credit towards your degree for attending environment-related events and offerings both on and off campus.

This one-credit online workshop helps you connect with the rich conservation tradition in Idaho and here on Boise State’s campus. Connect with faculty and community partners working on environmental issues across academic disciplines.

Community and Faculty Partnerships

There are a variety of environmentally-focused groups on campus and in the regional community participating in the Environment Passport.

They include: the City of Boise, Intermountain Bird Observatory, Peregrine Fund, Idaho Fish and Game, the US Forest Service, Boise Bicycle Project and more.

Course requirements

  • Attend a total of seven events related to environmental topics throughout the semester
  • Ensure attendance at a minimum of one event every two weeks

Reflective writing

  • Submit a reflective essay for each attended event. Reflective essays should explore personal reactions, insights, emotional response and critical analysis of the event.
  • Minimum word count: 300 (ARTSCI 297) or 500 (ARTSCI 497) words per reflection.
  • Reflections are due by the end of each two-week period.

Online discussions

  • Participate in online discussions about the events attended.
  • Engage with peers by sharing insights and responding to their reflections.
  • Active participation in discussions is integral to the learning experience.

Final reflection paper

  • Submit a comprehensive final reflection paper that synthesizes insights gained throughout the semester.
  • Discuss connections between different events and their impact on your academic development at Boise State.
