[Allie Arizmendi-Sanchez, Civil Engineering Major, TRIO STEM scholar]: For me, being a first-generation college student means that it was harder for me applying to school and also navigating school. I knew people from high school moving here, but it was harder getting into that process because my parents didn’t know how to help me. And so CAMP and TRIO have really helped me in the sense of building a community. I have people I can reach out to and hang out with me and study, but it’s also helped me academically and financially with scholarships and tutoring. They’re just really great programs that helped me figure out that I belong here and that I can finish college.
