On January 25th students from the TRIO Rising Scholars and TRIO Teacher Preparation Programs attended a showing of the film “20th Century Women” at the Flicks Theater in Downtown Boise.
The film is about a single mother, Dorothea, raising her teenage son in California in 1979. The film addresses issues such as being a single parent, relationships, identity, growing up, and respect.
In the film Dorothea is struggling to communicate with her son, and so recruits two younger women to help with his upbringing. The three women help teach him valuable life lessons and respect for women.
The event was a chance for TRIO students to get together, participate in discussion about the film as well as current events, and enjoy a good movie at a local Boise venue.
