Meridian Students Learn a Way With Clay

On November 5th, students went to A Way with Clay, a pottery store and studio in Boise, Idaho and learned about underglaze and firing processes. They learned about the vitrification process and that glazes are essentially melted glass over the vessel. Students chose an item to paint and their work came out beautifully. They said they had fun and they didn’t expect the painting to take as long as it did. They thought it was interesting how fast the glaze dries and how it has a chalky texture. They were very happy and surprised with how different they looked when they returned to them out of the kiln. They were proud of their work. They then went on to enjoy lunch together. It was a fun team building and bonding event and I as their teacher got to learn more about my students.
