Professional Year Application Requirements

Professional Year Application Requirements

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, and:
    • Education course GPA of 3.0 or higher.
    • Content area course GPA of 3.0 or higher (if applicable).
    • Endorsement area GPA of 3.0 or higher (if applicable).
  • All major-specific coursework prior to the Professional Year must be completed or in progress with a C or better.
  • Passing Praxis II scores – Every student looking to obtain teaching licensure must complete Praxis II exams for their chosen major and/or endorsements. The purpose of these exams and how to determine your specific exam numbers will be discussed in the following section.  Once you have taken an exam and it has been scored with a passing score, you will upload the scoresheet you are provided with to your Taskstream account.  Passing scores are required for all Elementary Education program students to enter Professional Year, so it is highly recommended that you have the scores ready for the application deadline. All Secondary Education students must pass all of their Praxis tests prior to beginning their Student Teaching semester. Students who do not have passing scores by the deadline are still encouraged to apply and complete their Praxis II exams as soon as possible.  Not completing Praxis II exams on time may delay a student’s Professional Year admittance.
  • Fingerprint/Background Check packet – Students are also required to obtain a Fingerprint/Background packet from one of two locations: Outside the Office of Teacher Education on the 7th floor of the Education building, or in the Education Advising and Student Success office located on the third floor of the Education building, Rm. 321.  This packet includes physical forms the student will need to complete and will be returned directly to the Office of Teacher Education.
    • Fingerprints – Students are responsible for having their fingerprints taken.  The packet will have information on the location where these can be completed, as well as updated information on costs.
    • Background checks – Students will complete a form that initiates a background check to be completed by the Idaho State Department of Education.
      • Please note: previous background checks will not be allowed unless completed by the Idaho State Department of Education and completed within the last six months.  City of Boise background checks are not acceptable.
